Alessio Lisci: “We Need to Change the Dynamic to Play with a Clearer Mind and Get Better Results”

The Italian coach spoke to the media following Sevilla – Osasuna.

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci addressed the media after the match at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.

“I have to go by what I see on the pitch,” Lisci said. “There are obviously things we need to adjust, but I think there are teams in a much worse situation than we are. Of course, you can’t only rely on what happens on the field—results are fundamental, and right now the standings don’t reflect what we want. I’m not sure if worried is the right word. We need focus and care, because when you’re near the bottom, it’s harder to play with a clear mind. When you’re out of that zone, you play with a different mentality, and it’s important to understand that now so we can change this dynamic, get into a better position, play with a clearer head, and achieve better results.”

Regarding the match, the Italian coach noted: “I think the result is unfair because, aside from the penalty situation—which we caused ourselves—the corner that led to it came from a restart we should have handled differently. They then had a clear chance, practically their first shot of the game, and nothing had really happened before that. Then we had an opportunity to equalize through [forward] Raúl [García], but we missed it. We created several dangerous situations. It’s true that Sevilla could have scored on transitions, but I think the defeat is unjust. Away from home, except for the match against Betis, it’s always the same story: we play well but still lose. We need to analyze the details, because otherwise this dynamic will continue.

“The team showed ambition in both halves,” he added. “It’s clear that when [midfielder] Aimar is on the pitch, we gain more in our inside play—he turns, creates advantages, and gives us something extra. Now that he’s back, we hope to change the situation. That doesn’t take anything away from [midfielder] Kike Barja, who was having a good game. It’s not about him—it’s simply that Aimar’s profile is very different from what we have. It’s hard to replace him. The team tried, competed, but once again we lost because of a small detail.”
